Tabs is, for the most part, a hugely intelligent and incredibly gentle horse. He is extremely easy to teach as he picks up on ques very quickly compared to the other race horses. In fact, he loves to be doing new things all the time and tends to go a little crazy if he is not worked on a regular basis. Tabs is not an "in-your-pocket" kinda horse but does like to please his handlers because they do give him the occasional apple. He was born and raised at Valkyrie, and as a young horse, he was spindly and awkward in his own body. However, even then he was a kindhearted colt, careful of where he put his feet around the humans. Because he grew so big, so quickly, he learned how to keep track of his body pretty much all the time, knowing where he can fit and where he can't without getting injured or injuring someone else. He has learned to love his personal space and can get cranky if there are too many people crowding around him. Because he didn't race as a two-year-old (due to the fact his muscle didn't match his body yet), some might think that he'd have issues with the crowd and competition. However, he's not the type to get riled up, and he can be reminded to focus on the task at hand. He sometimes has his moments, of course, but for the most part he's the type to think rather than react, and even when he does spook or get riled, it's not an extreme reaction that can't be brought back in hand. He might not be the most aggressive or dominant colt, but he has a lot of heart and the will to please, and that will hopefully take him far.

Tabs normally starts well, putting him in good contention a few lengths behind the leaders. Though he prefers this easy preceder position, he has proven to the staff he's also capable of leading a race in the absence of a true front-runner. If he has a bad start, depending on the number of horses in the field, he might be intimidated by a large field in front of him. However, he's good at finding holes when he's asked to fight back, so it doesn't have to be a deal-breaker. He's got a strong desire to lead once he's given his head, so he rarely needs to be urged much to chase the leaders. If it comes down to leading a race, Tabs has an uncanny ability to keep track of where the other horses are at and knows it is his job to stay a step in front of them at all times.
